RWAF Approved Rabbit Tunnel – 6″ Diameter | 1ft–8ft Lengths

Description

RWAF Approved Rabbit Tunnels – 6″ & 8″ Diameter

The UK’s Leading Rabbit Tunnel Specialist

Looking for a rabbit tunnel that is strong, durable, flexible and designed with rabbit welfare in mind?

You’ve found it.

At Pets Playstore, we’ve been specialising in rabbit tunnels since 2018 and have sold more than 10,000 tunnels to rabbit owners across the UK.

Our tunnels are also RWAF Approved and are currently listed by the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) as an approved rabbit accommodation product. RWAF assesses approved products against welfare-focused criteria including size and suitability, safety and materials, physical and emotional wellbeing, and overall product quality.

This isn’t simply a piece of plastic pipe marketed as a rabbit toy. We’ve spent years supplying rabbit tunnels, understanding how they are used and developing a range of sizes and accessories specifically for rabbit owners.

Why Choose a Pets Playstore Rabbit Tunnel?

There are plenty of cheap plastic tunnels available, but our tunnels are different.

RWAF Approved

Our Rabbit Tunnels & Connectors are listed in the official RWAF Approved Products directory, giving you confidence that the product has been assessed against recognised rabbit welfare standards.

Over 10,000 Tunnels Sold

We’ve been selling rabbit tunnels since 2018 and have supplied over 10,000 tunnels to rabbit owners.

That experience matters. We know which sizes work, how rabbits use them and what rabbit owners need from a tunnel system.

Made from Strong HDPE

Our tunnels are manufactured from High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) – an exceptionally strong and durable material.

The material is actually manufactured for use as land drainage within the construction industry, rather than being a lightweight pet product designed simply to look like a tunnel.

The result is an extremely robust tunnel that can withstand substantial pressure and everyday use.

In fact, an adult weighing around 100kg can stand on the tunnel without it collapsing or deforming under normal conditions.

Two Unique Tunnel Diameters

We are currently unaware of another UK rabbit tunnel supplier offering these two specific sizes:

  • 6 inch – 160mm external diameter / 135mm internal diameter
  • 8 inch – 200mm external diameter / 170mm internal diameter

We call them 6 inch and 8 inch simply because this makes choosing the correct size much easier for customers.

The 6 inch tunnel is suitable for most smaller and medium-sized rabbits, while the 8 inch tunnel provides additional room for larger breeds or rabbits that prefer a more spacious tunnel.

There is no weight restriction on either size.

Rabbit Tunnel Lengths & Flexibility

Our tunnels are available in a range of lengths, allowing you to create anything from a short hideaway to a large tunnel system.

6 inch tunnels

Available in lengths from 1ft to 8ft.

8 inch tunnels

Available in lengths from 1ft to 6ft.

It’s important to understand that the flexibility of the tunnel depends on its length.

1ft and 2ft tunnels have limited flexibility because they simply aren’t long enough to form significant bends.

From 3ft upwards, there is enough material for the tunnel to flex and curve, allowing you to create different routes around your rabbit’s accommodation.

Longer tunnels can be particularly useful for creating interesting layouts between a rabbit’s hutch, house and run.

Designed Around Natural Rabbit Behaviour

Rabbits are naturally inquisitive animals that enjoy exploring, running, hiding and navigating enclosed spaces.

Wild rabbits live within interconnected burrow systems containing tunnels, entrances and chambers. While a domestic rabbit’s environment should never rely on a tunnel as a substitute for appropriate space, tunnels can provide an excellent form of enrichment and another way for your rabbit to interact with their surroundings.

A tunnel can give your rabbit somewhere to:

  • Explore
  • Run through
  • Hide
  • Investigate
  • Play
  • Travel between different areas
  • Exercise and binky

And because rabbits don’t all use enrichment in exactly the same way, you can experiment with different layouts to find what your rabbit enjoys most.

Connect Your Rabbit’s Hutch & Run

One of the best uses for our tunnels is to create a secure connection between a rabbit’s hutch, house and exercise run.

Instead of simply having your rabbit walk from one area to another, you can create a tunnel route between them.

This can give your rabbit an additional way to move around their environment while making their accommodation more interesting and stimulating.

Our Hutch/Run Connectors allow the tunnel to be securely attached to a suitable hutch, house or run.

The connector slots into the grooves of the tunnel and can then be bolted to the structure.

Please note: Hutch/Run Connectors are sold separately.

For more information about rabbit accommodation and why rabbits need considerably more space than a traditional small hutch, see our guide:

Why a Hutch is Not Enough

Create a Larger Tunnel System

Why stop at one tunnel?

Our tunnels can be connected together to create a much longer route or even a more elaborate tunnel system.

We offer two types of tunnel connector:

Permanent Plastic Tunnel Connector

Our plastic tunnel connector provides a simple way of permanently joining two lengths of tunnel together.

This is ideal if you want to create a longer tunnel and don’t expect to regularly dismantle it.

Heavy-Duty Removable Tunnel Connector

Our heavy-duty removable connector allows two tunnels to be joined while still making them easy to separate.

This is particularly useful if you want to:

  • Clean the tunnels
  • Move your rabbit’s setup
  • Change the layout
  • Store the tunnels
  • Separate sections of a larger tunnel system

You can find our Tunnel Connectors here.

Suitable for Indoor & Outdoor Use

Our HDPE rabbit tunnels are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

They can be:

  • Used in indoor rabbit accommodation
  • Used in outdoor runs
  • Hosed down for cleaning
  • Buried underground
  • Used as part of a larger tunnel system
  • Connected to hutches, houses and runs

Can Rabbit Tunnels Be Buried?

Yes.

The tunnels can be buried in the ground and are perforated to allow water to drain through them.

However, the surrounding ground must also be reasonably well-draining. If the tunnel is installed in heavy clay or an area where water naturally collects, drainage will obviously be restricted by the surrounding soil.

If you are burying the tunnel, always consider the overall construction of your rabbit’s enclosure and make sure it remains secure and predator-proof.

Easy to Clean

Rabbit tunnels can become dirty, particularly when used outdoors or in a rabbit run.

The smooth HDPE material makes our tunnels easy to clean and they can simply be hosed down with water.

For setups where regular removal is desirable, our removable heavy-duty tunnel connectors make cleaning and rearranging your tunnel system even easier.

We also sell end caps for both tunnel sizes, allowing you to close off the ends when a tunnel isn’t being used.

How Strong Are They?

Very strong.

Our tunnels are manufactured from HDPE and were originally designed around a material used for land drainage in the construction industry.

They aren’t designed to be a flimsy disposable rabbit toy.

A 100kg adult can stand on the tunnel without it collapsing under normal conditions.

That gives you an idea of just how robust they are.

However, rabbits are exceptionally determined chewers, so while the tunnels are extremely strong, they are not chew-proof.

There is no realistic material that can be described as completely chew-proof for a rabbit. If your rabbit begins consuming significant amounts of the plastic rather than simply investigating or occasionally chewing it, the tunnel should be removed.

Outdoor Use & Sunlight

The tunnels can be left outside permanently and are suitable for outdoor rabbit runs.

However, like many plastics, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and UV radiation over several years can cause the material to become slightly more brittle.

For the longest possible lifespan, consider positioning the tunnel so that it isn’t exposed to intense direct sunlight all day, particularly during the summer months.

Available Accessories

Build your rabbit’s tunnel system exactly how you want it.

Rabbit Hutch / Run Connectors

Secure your tunnel to a suitable hutch, house or run.

Tunnel Connectors

Join two lengths of tunnel together.

Removable Heavy-Duty Tunnel Connectors
